Description

Ray L. Trautman was Chief of Army Library Service during World War Two. He earned the Legion of Merit award for his service which included helping to design a lightweight paperback that United States service members carried with them even in combat. Millions of the type of the book he helped design were shipped overseas.
After the war, he taught library science as a professor at Columbia University. He was elected president of the Yonkers Library Board of Trustess in 1953.
He is speaking at the celebration held on October 3, 1954.
